Moon Walking at the Royal National Park in Sydney

Moon Walking in Sydney

Some might say that the Royal National Park is 'out of this world' place to visit. It is a top thing to do in Sydney but we couldn't say it is out of this world - the Royal National Park is just outside of Sydney. :)

What we do say is spend the night there, with the right people, with the right equipment, it will feel like nowhere else on Earth - which is pretty close.

The Royal National is listed at No. 27 on the Top 100 List.

Best Water Park in Sydney - WetnWild or Waterworld?

Which is the best Water Park in Sydney?

For this summer it is a battle between Wet'n'Wild and Waterworld unless you live down south in which case you know better.

Wet'n'Wild vs Waterworld

Whilst Wet'n'Wild is the more of expensive of the two it is massive with loads of attractions. Waterworld is smaller and cheaper but it is almost impossible to go the Entertainment Quarter (Waterworld's location) without feeling that someone has had their hands in your wallet or purse. So the answer is to go to whichever one is the most convenient for you or better still just take them to the beach and pour a bucket of water over them :)

What to do during the Summer School Holidays in Sydney

Things to do for the School Holidays this Summer in Sydney

With the School Holidays coming up you may be wondering what to do with the kids. As you might expect we have a few ideas. An ageless and popular activity is a trip to the zoo. We have a few options to choose from including Taronga Zoo with its new Baby Bonga (striped antelope). You could also a take a trip back in time to see a few of the big fellas that used to live around these parts. You could even have a sleep over at their place.

Must do in Sydney - Open Air Cinema

What MUST you do in Sydney?

To answer my own question, and what a good question it is if I don't mind saying so myself, is just make your way through the top 100 list of top things to do in Sydney.

Dumb Question!

Ok perhaps not necessarily the very best question, how's this one, what is the one thing that you should do in Summer in Sydney that sells out really quickly. Answer, visit the Open Air Cinema in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Why mention it now? Tickets go on sale soon after the program release on Friday, 13th December. If you don't buy your tickets soon after that you won't be able to get to any of the films you really want to see as they will be gone, gone, gone!

Good Luck!

Newtown Festival in Sydney

Should you go to the Newtown Festival in Sydney?

If you have never experienced a Newtown Festival then you have to go. You have to go not for the music, although the music is entertaining, new and fresh, not for the food, although the food is tasty, and spicy and yummy, not for the art and craft that is interesting, thought provoking and challenging and not for the great kids zone and associated things to do. No, not for any or all of these things should you venture into Newtown this Sunday. Go for the people, go for the vibe and the smiling faces. Go for the atmosphere, the delicious smells and alluring sights and sounds. You go to experience Newtown and you go to have a good time.

Things to do in the Spring School Holidays in Sydney

School Holiday Fun Things to do in Sydney

Finding things to do in the School Holidays is always a tough one. Sure there are lots of things you could do but 'boring', 'it's not fair' and 'we always do that' are just some of the many ways in which children can quickly reduce the ideas list down to zilch. You can always resort to 'in my day' etc but that's not much fun and may not help much. Instead try the list below and who knows, maybe you will find something that everyone will enjoy.

Things to do on Father's Day in Sydney - All n all it's just another sock in the drawer?

Father's Day in Sydney and those Silly Socks

Not that I'm suggesting this as a top thing to do, but go through any Dad's sock drawer and the chances are you will find at least one pair of 'silly socks'. "Where they came from?" will probably produce a wily smile and the answer "Father's Day..." There are other things to do and other gifts to get. The upside is that Dad is probably expecting a tie, mug, another pair of socks or possibly nothing at all. You rarely get a better chance to surprise and delight your Dad than on Father's Day.

Things to do if it rains in Sydney and Sydney Weather

How is the weather treating (with) you?

It's not an uncommon question to ask How's the weather in Sydney? So here is an uncommon answer - it's not bloody good enough! I know, I know there's got to be a little rain sometimes but this is just too much! In order to do what we can do we have instigated anti-rain dancing which involves jumping up and down in ever decreasing circles chanting 'this is not Melbourne!' :) It could become a top thing to do in Sydney. On a more practical level, we have upgraded the Sydney100 weather page to include things to do if the weather is not behaving itself.

Budget cuts mean no Sydney Winter Festival in 2013

Sydney Winter Festival has been axed - Sydney Harbour Bridge to be sold??

Despite reports to the contrary, there will be no official Winter Festival in Sydney this year. It has been axed just like the Blues and Jazz Festival, the Great Train Race and soon to be dismantled Sydney Monorail. So what is next for the chop? The Sydney Harbour Bridge? It was a while ago but the English sold London Bridge to the Americans. I wonder how much the Chinese would pay for the Sydney Harbour Bridge? Maybe we could sell them Blues Point Tower instead.

Queen's Birthday Long-Weekend in Sydney and the start of the Snow Season

Queen's Birthday Long-Weekend in Sydney and the start of the Snow Season

Have you notice how long this month has been? On and on and on and it's still here. The reason is, is that we need a break and we haven't had one. Thankfully, the Queen has bestowed upon us that we can take a day off for her birthday, isn't that nice of her. If I could, I'd give everyone the day off for my birthday too, in fact for yours as well. Why stop there, every birthday should be a holiday and we all should get paid holiday pay if really need to do some work. Yes, well, so, moving on not only is it the Queen's Birthday next month it is also the start of the ski season. Below you'll find links for things to do over the June Long-Weekend, Skiing in Australia and then we go on a bit about the Alpine Way in the Snowy Mountains.

Things to do if it rains in Sydney

What to do if it rains in Sydney

Has it been raining where you are? Well 'rain happens' I guess. I was talking to lady who used to live in Cape York, the pointy bit at the top of Queensland. I asked her what they did during the three months of continuous rain called the Wet Season. She said they did the same things they did when it was not raining (presumably excluding hanging out the washing); they just did them in the rain. So if you are looking for something to do whilst it is raining, you could do as they do in Far North Queensland or try some of these ideas instead: http://www.sydney100.com/whattodorainssydney.htm

Pyrmont Festival - Pirrama Park - Friday, 17th May to Sunday, 26th May

Pyrmont and Mudgee combine in ferocious synergy of wine, food and art. That's not to say that Pyrmont doesn't have much to offer the world, of course it does, but there aren't too many wineries in Pyrmont. Enjoy the day and 'Meet the Winemaker'.

Places to stop driving north of Sydney

Driving north out of Sydney? Places to stop along the way

I saw a headline somewhere, in between two headlines being nasty to someone, saying that it was going to be sunny over the Easter Holidays! This is great news, if it is to be believed, it was in The Australian after all, as Easter is often wet. So if you are driving north, we will write page going south as it were, if we ever get the time, you will need to stop, revive, and survive. Now whilst there are those great stop, revive, survive by-the-side of the road places which are excellent, there are other alternatives, and even places you could stay at rather than spend a big chunk of your Easter Break driving. Either or, stop, have a rest, take it easy, and come back in one piece - stay safe.

Vivid Live - Tickets go on sale Wednesday, 27th March

Vivid Live - Mostly Sydney Opera House - Tickets on sale Wednesday, 27th March

With Vivid Sydney growing ever more popular with each passing year, it is fair to assume that most of the tickets to Vivid Live will disappear very quickly. Tickets to Kraftwerk, Vivid's original headline act, went faster than a German sports car on an autobahn. This year the line-up includes Empire of the Sun and music legend Bobby Womack.  You will find more details on Vivid Sydney and Vivid Live by following the link below.

What to do in Sydney at Easter

Easter in Sydney

'Don't Panic' to quote the Google Doodle today, or rather to quote the Google Doodle quoting somebody else but I never have the time to find out what the Google Doodles are all about which is funny really as we usually draw doodles when we have too much time or are bored which you probably are by now by this rambling so let's get to the point! Easter is less than three weeks away, there I said it. This is both good and bad. Good, break from work. Bad, what are we going to do? Well, the good news is it is good, bad and good because we have a few ideas...

Weather in Sydney - Not Good Enough!!

How's the weather in Sydney? I'll tell you - Not bloody good enough! I know, I know there's got to be a little rain sometimes but this is just too much! In order to do what we can do we have instigated anti-rain dancing which involves jumping up and down in ever decreasing circles chanting 'this is not Melbourne!'. It could become a top thing to do in Sydney if this keeps up. On a more practical level, we have upgraded the Sydney100 weather page to include stuff to do if the weather appears to be conspiring to keep you inside.

Valentine's Day in Sydney

Love is going to be in air in Sydney, everywhere you look around, love will be in the air, every sight and every sound - there's no getting away with it as it is Valentine's Day tomorrow. And I don't know if I'm being foolish, don't know if I'm being wise, But it's something that we must be wary of, it will be there when you look in your loved ones eyes, so if all you've got is a lousy card... well, all I can say is, love is in the air...

Do something for Valentine's Day before it's too late!

Sun Herald Twilight at Taronga Zoo

Twilight at Taronga Zoo, Summer Concert Series - Mosman - Friday, 1st February to Saturday, 23rd March
'Tonight's the Night' as far as Taronga's Twilight summer series of concerts goes. I think the pretend Rod Stewart is on later in the series in case you are worried you had missed it. It is a fun picnic thing celebrating some of the biggest 'Number One Albums' in history. It is unlikely you will witness any award winning performances but it is very likely that you will have a good time - and that's all that matters really.

Nobody cares about being Australian anymore?

Nobody cares about being Australian anymore?

It’s a big juicy long weekend this weekend and the best bit is it is Australia Day on Saturday. Do try to get yourself off to an official Australia Day Sydney celebration as the politicians and media will start complaining and worrying that nobody cares about being Australian anymore. Just click the link below for what's on:

Pop Up Bar at the Sydney Opera House

Pop Up Bar - Sydney Opera House down Mexico Way - to Monday, 28th January

There's this little Cantina place, you might know it, it's the one with the great view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, anyway, I was standing there enjoying my Margarita when this guy came up to me and said "Hola, Como estas" so I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich ..

Hawkesbury International Sand Sculpting Championships is on Now!

An international field of sculptures are battling it out, right now, right there, as we speak. Who will create the greatest ‘Fairy tale and Fable’ of them all? It's artist against artist, sand against man (and woman), creativity against heat, sheer will power against gravity, that the battle is on, lines have been drawn in the sand and there is no going back!!

Too much excitement?

If this all sounds a bit too exciting don't worry, the competition is scheduled to come to a close tomorrow. After that it will get more relaxed so you can inspect the competition entries at your leisure and vote on the most worthy one.

What about the kids?

The kids will enjoy the sculptures but there should also be sand art and bottles, a huge sand pit complete with diggers and sand sculpting workshops.
