Happy New Year! What top thing(s) are you going to do this year? Maybe you've done a few, maybe you've done them all (impressive!) but you can always do them again. The harbour, for example, looks different every time - so why not! It's a great city, make the most of it!

New Year's Eve in Sydney

New Year's Eve

Where's the party? Well this is Sydney - it's everywhere but the Harbour is always a good place to start.

Sydney Harbour National Park

Sydney Harbour National Park covers many of the top locations in and around Sydney Harbour. Hence it is the favourite destination for many as New Year's Eve warms up towards  its finale. Picnicking by the water and enjoying the company of friends, family and fellow Sydneysiders can bring the party to life and add a real zing to a memorable and exciting night.

August in Sydney

There's a bit on in August including the Story of the Unfolding Planet at Customs House which "artfully captures the arresting landscapes and faces of climate change". If the potential end of the human-race doesn't do it for you, there's sweaty heart break hill (City2Surf) or Balmoral fine wine swill and there's things for kids to do too, including a trip to the zoo, so don't stay home even if it's a little chilly, because the time is right for having fun in the city.

Things to do in July in Sydney

There's a whale or two to see,
More than usual it seems to me.
Tonnes of things for the kids to do,
Toy and game expo or a trip to the zoo.
There are crafty things going on,
And a hearty feast of song.
Sydney in July is a good place to be
But don't take my word for it
Get out there and see.

Islands and National Park Tours
This is a good time of year, well any time is a good time of year in Sydney but that doesn't detract from the fact that now is a good time to go on an Island adventure. We list most of Sydney Harbour's islands in the top 100:

National Park's Tour of Goat Island
One which is worthy of particular mention is Goat Island on account of its excellent National Parks Tour run every second Sunday of the year:

Bare Island
Bare Island is also worthy of a special mention for its interesting past:

These relatively cheap tours run every Sunday.

Sydney May Festivals

May in Sydney - The Month of Festivals

For some reason there seems to be more festivals on in Sydney in May than in any other month despite the less than warmest of weather. Firstly let us give you the heads-up on the Head On Photo Festival which goes well beyond the Head On Portrait Prize it is most famous for. Head On is on from Monday, 12th May. You may feel the need to unwind and reflect on the art on show so a few days after Head On is on you can head-on down to the Pyrmont Festival for a little good food, wine and a great time. After that Sydney really starts to light-up... read about it all on the Sydney100 collection of May goodies.
